Jwfacts: I thought about blood transfusions when I enrolled in the class, but I'm not sure it would qualify since the subject lacks the required "regulatory" aspect.

Drug regulation, pharmaceutical companies, OTCs--VERY fertile ground. And yes Mum, since I have only 35 pages, I would need to narrow the subject to probably one drug. If I choose this topic, I will email you; thank you for the offer. JeffT--addiction--that's a really good angle. I could even take that into employment law and how far accomodations must go.
Band--I too was thinking about how the regulatory scheme completely failed, but thank you for reminding me about surveying other countries. We have UW Medical Center, which is a research hospital, so I'm sure someone would speak with me. And yes, I learned this first year to totally disregard the professor when he or she says that they are NOT looking for you to parrot what they say. That is EXACTLY what they are looking for. However, there will not be much lecturing. This is seminar course so it meets only for a couple of hours each week.

I hate this: " Instructor approval of selected topic is required". Sounds like censorship to me. I know, such is life.
As long as it's related, they usually approve it. Most of their descriptions are a bunch of CYA with restrictions that they end up not enforcing anyway. : ) And thanks for the ideas!

You both have excellent ideas. Thank you. Scully, I have thought of those things also, but I need to narrow the subject-matter. I am hoping that someone has had a personal experience that deals with the medicine/regulation/law. I haven't, and I am certainly not interested in writing on the Health Care bill.
I saw a news report recently that some people are not getting their cancer medicine because there was a shortage this summer in the U.S. Not sure how that happened...perhaps a good subject, and it is related to your friends thesis mumatron.

Hello Everyone. I am looking for suggestions for a topic for my research paper. Here is a class description which outlines the perimeters of the paper.
"This seminar course deals with controversial issues arising from the interface and relationship between law and medicine. The course will focus particularly on the role of the government and oversight bodies in understanding and regulating access, use and misuse of medical treatments and technology. Class discussions will be devoted to the legal, ethical and social implications of those issues and how the law can be of constructive use in clarifying debates and solving challenging issues. Grading will be based on submission of a 30-35 page research paper on a law and medicine topic of the student’s choice (Instructor approval of selected topic is required). This paper will satisfy the law school’s Advanced Writing Requirement."
It seems the class will be focusing on regulation and medicine. Any ideas?

Hello all. This is the first time I have logged on in months. My apologies for the tardy responses to those who have PM'd me. I finished my first year of law school and the first round of on-campus interviews for next summer's positions. School resumes in about two weeks, so I doubt I will be posting much.
A cursory review seems to indicate this place has calmed down again. It was pretty bitter here for a long while, which is one of the reasons I quit visiting the site.
I hope everyone is enjoying his/her summer!

Did US Forces support Israel or were they attacked by Israel?
Jeff..it's not "my" post. Read the f'ing articles. Israel was receiving backdoor, covert assistance from the U.S. They purposely attacked the Liberty in hopes of destroying it and then accusing Egypt of the act. Then, the U.S. would be forced by the "masses" to overtly join the war on Israel's side.

You know Jeff..I must seem incredibly arrogant...and I know as a JW, I would have thought the same thing about myself. But a great change has occurred in me since undergrad and law school. Did you not read the good Congressman's comment about the unmarked US aircraft and personnel that help Israel in the war? He's not the lone person saying this stuff.
I just don't know...there was a time when I sooo thought that if we just educate the people, they would know what to do. But now, I understand....I understand why politicians manipulate people...because they can't trust the "masses" to do the right thing with the information.
These young people in law school are sooo talented, but what are they going to do with the general public like I see here? What are they going to do Jeff? Can I tell them to trust the "people"? No. Not from what I see here.
I'm going to show them this thread on Monday. I going to show them that they need to fear the "people" because they can't seem to process information, and the "people" NEED to cling to their fantasies.

However, after losing an argument
Hhmmm...see this is where I have issues with people on this DB. When I present scholarly works from experts, who have access to information that the average citizen does not, that happens to disagree with their lay-person opinions, they say I have "lost" the argument. You know...Botch...that sounds eerily familiar to me...I think I have heard similar things at the KH...you WERE an elder, weren't you? : )
Edited to say: I would also like to acknowledge the 20-nothing year old males with whom I attend law school. They are so far beyond the avergage JW male. I, at 51-years of age, am now for the first time hopeful for the future, because after a lifetime of spending time with JW males (even the "ex" ones) , I see that the "world" has progressed so much farther than I could EVER have hoped. : ) I am proud to say that they NEVER would have responded like Botchtower to acamedic works. There IS hope for the future.... Justitia clapping for her male classmates....
